The equine digestive system requires specific nutrients in order to maintain an optimal balance for proper digestion and absorption.  The large intestine is essential for optimum water absorption, and the unique combination of nutrients in Recover® can help restore proper colon health.  
Digestive complications can be a major influence on the health and performance of the animal.  Extreme complications such as diarrhea and colic may be lethal.  Often times these secondary conditions are seen as a result of a primary illness or the treatment of illness with antibiotics or other therapy.  
The large intestine can be positively influenced by the use of selective nutrients called probiotics (active bacterial cultures) and pharmaceuticals.  More recently a new class of products called prebiotics has gained popularity.  Prebiotics are defined as any product that selectively promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus) while limiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella, or Clostridia).  Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) have been found to be a good source of this activity.  Fructo-ogliosaccharides (FOS) are found in unique ingredients such as chicory root, Jerusalem artichoke and onion.  The have a pronounced influence on the restoration of normal gut microflora, helping to shorten the duration of loose stools or diarrhea.

Recover Basics & Usage

• Probiotics are nutrients used for food by the beneficial bacteria population in the equine intestinal tract
• Recover® Powder should be fed at the daily rate of 1 rounded scoop per 250 lbs of body weight for as long as digestive upset is evident and should be fed for an additional 5-days after symptoms have subsided.  The feeding level should be divided into two feedings.
• Recover® Powder can be top-dressed onto their grain mixture or mixed with water, and administered in an oral drench.  
• If the veterinarian elects to administer by nasal gastric tube, mix the daily dosage of Recover® Powder in enough water to flow through the GI tube.  Recover® should be provided with-in 15 minutes of mixing with water.
• Horses with minor loose stools maybe provided Recover® Powder at the rate of 1 rounded scoop / 500 lbs of body weight.
